Thank you for requesting a serious critique. I find this recent work of yours to be extremely vibrant, to the point where it is mildly unsettling and carries with it an emotional, underlying message--as though the city itself is on the verge of some outside danger. Compositionally, I wonder why you've split the picture in half. The sea wall is such a dominating, solidly painted feature, that it forceably leads the viewer's eye immediately to the upper left. This would be fine if there were a definite, and meaningful focal point at the end of the wall. But as a viewer (and I am just a viewer--others may disagree) I find I am disappointed that with such a strong visual line demanding I look to the upper left, there're just trees and an understated bridge. There's nothing at the end of the wall to justify my having to look there.

I'm left with the feeling that the composition might be radically shifted upward, making the sea wall appear at the top of the painting, so that the sky, buildings and lights are viewed entirely as a water-reflected scene below it.

I am yet struck by the vividly rendered use of colour and brushwork, which makes everything appear quite electric and ultra-alive.

Thank you for requesting an indepth commentary. I don't know if it is, in fact 'indepth', or useful to you, but they are only my impressions, and the comments of a fan.

I wish the world was as beautiful as this.
