Critiques
The things that impress me most about this painting are the creation of the sky and the water. But I have to say that the city itself is done very well; proportions are good, it's geometrically appealing and almost luminous in colour.
However, the short brush strokes of various cool colours give the sky an amazing quality. It almost looks as if the sky is shimmering. Same goes for the canal. The image is sharp enough to imply a reflection, but distorted enough to be realistically water.
All in all, the artist really manages to capture the feeling of the city through this impressive traditional piece.
