Hi ,
I’m a relatively successful artist Leonid Afremov. I would like to tell you about a customer that tried to scam me yesterday. The transaction was made on my site www.afremov.com. Such scam and fraud is very common for online transactions. I would refer to him as JM in order to protect client’s confidentiality. JM tried to steal my painting. He purchased a recreation of the painting Alley by The lake for $164 including shipping and stretching under one of my specials. He pressured me to ship the painting very fast by sending emails since day 1 threatening with cancelation. When you purchase a recreation, it’s something I have to paint. Customer satisfaction is very important to me, I take every transaction seriously so I put aside all my work and painted a recreation of Alley by The Lake for JM. I even sent him a free painting in addition because I felt it was taking too long. But oil paint does not dry fast. In the good case, it takes 5 days to dry.
After JM finally received the painting he started writing threatening emails. He was accusing me of being scam and fraud. He said that the painting looked horrible like a child painted it. He said that If Leonid Afremov created this painting than he painted it with his left hand while painting something else with the right hand at the same time. JM of course demanded his money back. I have no Scam and Fraud in my business and I feel very insulted when people call me a scam. I provided JM with a refund seconds after this emails and sent him a shipping label with my UPS account to return the paintings to me. Then he responded that he does not want to return the painting and will pay me $30 for it. I demanded the return of the painting but he never replied and agreed to send it back although I will be paying for the shipment.

JM accused me of being scam and fraud but he is a scam and fraud himself. From the day he purchased the painting his intent was to pressure me with time frames, accuse me of scam, get his money back and keep the painting as a compensation for the fictional scam committed against him. I don’t know now if he intends to send the painting back, I really hope he does because of I invested my soul into this painting. If he does not return the painting then JM is a thief and a scam. If it was more expensive transaction, it would have been worth it reporting this scam to the authorities.

I bought one of your paintings for my daughter.  It was worth the wait.  He stole your paintings!!  That should be reported!!

Thank you for sharing your experience, that is sad to know there are people like that out there and have the time to scam others out of their hard earned talent, work, and time. Their fast money earned is fast money lost for them. There are more good people than bad people in this world though :D

  • Upon shipping I will provide you the tracking number of the package. We use this to follow the delivery process and receive estimated date of arrival. 
  • A personalized gift message can be added free of charge if requested.

 

PURCHASE POLICY

  • Custom colors are accepted. Simply email me with an attached picture of the color or colors you desire.

*Due to the variation of screen resolutions and the customized blending of paints to duplicate your custom color, an exact match can not be guaranteed.

  • SIGNING: Art is beauty transporting the viewer. My initials and date will be in a lower front corner as to not intrude upon the viewer's appreciation of the art . Signature, date, and piece title on the canvas back.
  • As my orders are primarily custom, I post sold custom paintings for you; the buyers, reference. 
  • When a piece catches your fancy, you can request a similar painting in your own COLOR choice, SIZE choice,  or request a piece as close to the one you choose. 
  • 100% hand-painted by Eldridge. I only create paintings, I do not make prints of my art.

My paintings and drawings are like my children, I really hate to part with them, this must have been awful for you.  We artists are sensitive souls and if someone is unhappy with your work then it must really affect you.  This person is dispicable in his actions,  you are too kind by not naming him.  Name and shame I say,...  I love your work it is so bright and cheerful I am so sorry this has happened to you.

I purchased a painting in the past 2 months from Leonid.  When I received the painting it was absolutely beautiful.  I purchased for my wife, and she couldn't have been more pleased.  I currently own 4 of his originals, and I have just completed an order for another 36 x 48.  I am excited to see it, as it is a surprise for my wife.

I must admit that this makes me furious for you. Artists give their hearts and soul to viewers with every piece they create and to have someone use part of your soul to steal from you......I literally can't find the words. I wanted to capitalize the "furious" but felt that "shouting" would have been out of place. None-the-less I am honestly stunned by people using the arts to steal. This creates a world of suspicion and distrust that can infect the world of online auctions.

Although $164 is not a huge amount of money, in the big scheme of things, but any amount of money that someone steals from another is worth reporting. I hope you'll let the officials deal with this person. He/She will only continue to try and scam others. Possibly you can contact some officials from other auction sites and let them know this person should be banned from their site. Just know that everyone here is in your corner. I do find it interesting that one of the comments above (ironore--Dec. 2011) is for the same amount you mention and their complaint is that they didn't receive a "free painting that you owed them." Maybe I'd feel worse for them if anyone "owes" another something free!! Go after this person and know we're all behind you.

If you report this to your bank, or his bank, they should be able to reverse the payment that you made when you refunded his money. Also, I hope you did report him. Your art stands alone. I have loved and admired it since first seeing your work, and the bearer of such a clear gift should be respected, as should all humans, online or not. That person, JM, does not deserve the dignity to be allowed to perpetrate such a crime then get away with it. If allowed to do it, he will continue to harass other artists and online sellers. I am sorry that you went through that. I know that "icky" feeling when you have been stolen from.

I am sorry to hear that this has happened to you. I have never had a favourite artist until I came across your website. Your work is unbelievable and it truly takes my breath away. People who have no sense of art or artistic talents don't realise that you are not merely painting a picture, your are translating a part of your soul onto a canvas. I would consider taking this further, if I were you. It doesn't matter what you sell or what it costs, what is fair is fair and if you have been scammed, do something about it.

I strongly suggest you reconsider what it is an 'expensive enough' painting to warrant such action, if this guy takes your painting and hasn't paid for it you have every right to file a report and have the people who are better equipped, deal with it. You've spent a lifetime honing your craft and should be treated with the utmost respect, not like a cheap scam this guy sounds like he's definitely trying to get away with a free painting. Maybe 164 dollars is just a lot more to me than it is to you, but regardless of the amount please don't let this guy get away with this, just so that others may realize the scam doesn't work. Good luck sir, I wish I could be in the position where I could take your seminar as I myself am a photo artist and have been thinking of a few creative ways I could make and sell prints, however I'm of course a bit young (23) and being armed with a half a 4 year engineering degree doesn't exactly give me a boost in the direction I want :/. Do you have any online or otherwise published works on how to sell prints so darn well? :)

Unfortunately, you cannot prevent people from being unjust. You will run across those that want things for free or very cheap, not understanding that making a living as an artist means that your art is your soul source of income and cannot be given away.

What you need to do is protect yourself initially before your sale. Let your potential clients know that you cannot provide a full refund because of the cost of materials you use to make your art. Canvas, paint, and brushes are expensive and must be paid for when making any custom piece. If the client is not happy with the painting, do not offer them a refund right away, first see if they would like to ship it back to you so that you can fix it to their specifications. If this doesn't please them, allow them to ship the painting back to you, at your expense, and once you have that painting in hand, in perfect condition, you can issue your refund.

You are an artist, you provide a service that other people cannot provide, and you provide an end product that has an innate value. Your buyers need to be aware that your time and materials cost money, you will do the best you can to create them what they want, and if they cannot be satisfied, then they still have to pay you for your time and materials. When you have this policy in place there is less of an ability for someone to scam you after the fact.

Your paintings are beautiful and priced , in my opinion, too cheap. If someone doesn't want to pay that much for your art, than they don't get to own your art.

While surfing online, I "discovered you" when coming across some of your paintings; I was taken by your style of beautifully mixed colors and technique. When googling for more info about you, I came across this particular site and am sorry to hear of this scam. In response to your question of reporting it to authorities, I question whether or not you'll get anything out of it other than further frustration. Today's "pirates" seem to have found a new avenue of doing their dirty deeds on a worldwide scale, knowing they can escape authorities more readily. Something undoubtedly needs to be done about it. I wish I could give you an answer. All in all, I wanted to express my sympathies and, too, encourage you in your work. It's beautiful! I'm in hopes of purchasing a painting in the future.

I feel scammed....you promised me a free painting when I purchased one for $164 on September 20, 2011. I never received free painting. I have sent you numerous emails and messages on your website. The very few responses I received were filled with lies and false promises....I have contacted VISA and they will place this purchase in "dispute". We will see who wins! I used to trust you but no more will I.

I feel your pain even tho i haven't began to sell my paintings yet. I had a guy call me making joked about my painting acting as if he was going to purchase it. Further into the conversation i knew he was just pranking me into trying to humiliate me. Some people really dont understand the worth of art to an artist. You spend a lot of time trying to master the painting and it is meant to be judged. On the other hand people just fooling around trying to get a free painting from an artist and scamming somones business is uncalled for. This makes me hate people.
